Armley Helping Hands supports older people in the district of Leeds, West Yorkshire.
Our protocol is to be the first point of contact for older people, carers and their families. We are locally based and locally focussed, providing a broad range of services, advice, support, varied social & healthy living activities and participatory events.
Armley Helping Hands offers a wide variety of services for older people in Armley & Wortley, including:
Our community transport team and accessible minibuses are a vital resource to our community services which offer door-to-door transport and tailored options to meet specific needs where standard public transport is insufficient or due to limited mobility and disabilities.
All our minibuses are wheelchair accessible providing transport for medical appointments (Enhance Project), shopping, and social gatherings.
Community transport helps older people maintain their independence and autonomy.
90% of our older people participating in day to day activities access our service via our community transport.
80% of our older people who access our community transport are frail and require the support of additional walking aids and wheelchairs to maintain their independence.
Established in 1995, Armley Helping Hands was founded by a group of local people and community activists, concerned about the welfare of local older people living in very deprived inner-city areas of Leeds.
We respond to the needs and aspirations of local older people. We listen to our members and respond by providing a range of services, advice, support and varied social and healthy living activities.
The Armley Helping Hands team is available during office hours, Monday to Friday.
